With 38 million inhabitants and an area of 312,679 km², Poland is one of the largest countries in Europe. Poland borders the Baltic Sea and seven other countries, making it one of the countries with the most European neighbours.
Since the end of socialism, the Polish economy has been able to develop comparatively well. Poland has enjoyed consistently positive economic growth in recent years. Poland was the only European country that did not experience a recession as a result of the global crisis (2008). Since 2013, the economy has continued to recover, driven by domestic demand, especially investment and consumption.
